کتاب الکترونیکی Vocabulary for TOEFL iBT یکی دیگر از کتاب های انتشارات NEW YORK برای افزایش دانش واژگان انگلیسی داوطلبان آزمون تافل اینترنتی است. کتاب حاضر یکی از بهترین منابع آموزش لغت تافل انگلیسی به شمار می رود. در مجموع در حدود 650 واژه مهم و ضروری تافل در کتاب آورده شده است. کتاب شامل شش بخش آموزشی است و در هر بخش به صورت مجزا به آموزش نوع خاصی از لغات پرداخته است. به عنوان مثال یک بخش شامل واژه هایی است که در متن های نوشتاری به کار می روند، بخش دیگر به آموزش لغاتی که داری پسوند یا پیشوند هستند، پرداخته است، بخش دیگری به معرفی ریشه لغات و چگونگی تشخیص آن ها پرداخته است و نیز بخشی تحت عنوان Commonly Confused Words—Homonyms به معرفی واژگانی که دارای تلفظ یکسان اما معنی متفاوت هستند، اختصاص یافته است. بخشی نیز عبارات و اصطلاحات رایج در میان انگلیسی زبانان را گرد آوری کرده است. قابل ذکر است که همه فصل ها همراه با ارائه تمرین و تست برای ارزیابی دانشجو است. در انتهای کتاب نیزفهرست لغات، Prefixes, Suffixes و ریشه لغات انگلیسی همراه با معنی و مثال ارائه شده است.

در مقدمه PDF تافل IBT چنین آمده است که افراد در هر زبانی معمولا با سه دسته از واژگان سرو کار دارند. reading vocabulary به واژگانی گفته می شود که افراد معمولا آن ها را در هنگام خواندن با آن مواجهه شده و واژگان مذکور را فرا می گیرند. listening vocabulary لغاتی هستند که در هنگام “وش دادن آن ها را می شنویم و به ذهن می سپاریم. speaking vocabulary نیز لغاتی هستند که در هنگام مکالمه، این واژه ها را به کار می بریم.

در واقع لغاتی را می شنویم که تا کنون نشنیده ایم، لغاتی را می خوانیم که تا به حال نخوانده ایم و این در حالی است که در هنگام مکالمه چنین واژه هایی را نادیده گرفته و در هنگام صحبت کردن از آن ها استفاده نمی کنیم. همان گونه که می دانید در آزمون TOEFL آی بی تی همه مهارت های زبان انگلیسی داوطلب مورد سنجش قرار گرفته می شود. برای موفقیت در این آزمون ضرورت دارد تا زبان آموز بر همه لغات مهارت های زبانی شامل مهارت Reading، Listening و Speaking تسلط داشته باشد. کتاب واژگان آزمون تافل ibt شامل مجموعه ای از این سه دسته لغات است.

Vocabulary for TOEFL iBT will help nonnative speakers build or renew vital vocabulary skills. Vocabulary is a broad topic, and it forms the foundation for reading comprehension, grammar, and spelling. For the TOEFL iBT, you will not be allowed to use a dictionary, thesaurus, or other reference tool to help you with unfamiliar words. In general, the better your basic vocabulary skills are, the better you
will do on the entire TOEFL iBT.
Whether your exam is months away or coming up in a few weeks, this book will help you prepare. Begin getting ready for the TOEFL iBT by creating a
study plan for yourself. Determine how much time you have until the test day, and then decide how much time you can devote to studying each week. With
Vocabulary for TOEFL iBT, we suggest that you choose a time each day to improve your vocabulary. Think about when would be the best time for you. It may be first thing in the morning, during your commute to work, or before you go to bed at night. Whenever the time is right, just make sure you do it regularly at least five days a week for a month. Once you establish a study plan for yourself, you should stick as closely as you can to your plan. Always keep your end goal in mind. If you study hard the first time, chances are you will not have to take this exam again—ever!

Vocabulary for TOEFL iBT contains two practice tests at the end of the book. These tests will give you the chance to measure what you have learned and review any problem areas that you find. If after answering all the questions you feel like you need more practice, reread the questions and try responding one more time. Repetition is often the key to success and studies show that most repetitive tasks become part of a person’s inventory of skills over time.
The book finishes with a helpful word list of more than 650 commonly tested vocabulary words (Appendix A). It will be very beneficial for you to add these
words to your current vocabulary. We advise tackling the words on the list as you move through Vocabulary for TOEFL iBT, not waiting until the end of the book. Another helpful list—entitled Prefixes, Suffixes, and Word Roots—is included inAppendix B. Understanding the parts that make up a word can give you a clue about a word’s definition, and this can help you make educated guesses when taking the TOEFL iBT.
